SR Automotive was founded 2014 by Sami Ruotsalainen to commercialize the electric vehicle development work Ruotsalainen had started at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in 2007. Ruotsalainen has worked at Metropolia as senior lecturer in Automotive Electronics Engineering and as Chief Engineer and Team Leader for Electric RaceAbout since it's beginning in 2007. Together with his team Ruotsalainen developed also a control system for electric city bus.
